Shinobi: Heart Under Blade centers on the drama resulting from the war between two ninja clans in the early part of the Tokugawa era. In the film, Nakama Yukie portrays Oboro, the granddaughter of Ogen (Lily), the respected Iga clan matriarch, while Odagiri Jo plays Gennosuke, the son of Danjo Koga (Minoru Terada), the powerful Koga clan leader.
Japan has been united and Peace is starting to spread across the Land. The Iga and Koga clan have been have been at war for over 400 years but a treaty has been put into place to maintain order. This is all about to change when the nefarious Nankobo Tenkai schemes to gain more power by eliminating both Ninja Clans thereby removing any possible threat to his ambition. By influencing the Lord of Lords Tokugawa Ieyasu, to hold a contest pitting the 5 best warriors on each side, he hopes to eliminate the toughest ones from each clan first. Predictably, Lovers Oboro and Gennosuke are tasked to lead their respective sides to victory with survival as the prize.
